The answer to that question is a little complicated, because while there are amazing games out right now like Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 15, and Star wars the old republic (swtor), there are also games that have taken the genre and used it in bad faith, like World of Warcraft, Black desert online, and Wizard101.
In this video, we’ll be discussing what these MMO’s do right, what they do wrong, and what they could mean for the genre and future of MMO Games as a whole.

January 22, 2024 - 1:14 amI know technically Warframe isn't an MMO since you only team up with up to 4 people like Destiny, but it blew my mind with its past few updates. It changed the way I thought about online video games because it's not afraid to try entirely different things that aren't what it's known for. I wish more games had that level of daring, the will to mix things up even though it might not work.

January 22, 2024 - 1:14 amLong-time W101 player here (since 2009/2010), but admittedly havenβt played much in the last few years. As far as I remember, gear is typically only worth fully trading out every 5-10 levels until 60 (all of which can be bought with regular in-game currency for cheap) then farm at levels 60 and 100 at their respective dungeons, then possibly at level 130 in the sewers (donβt know the breakpoints after that). Pack/premium gear is usually either trash, or about on par with the farmable gear, with the exception of the jade set which itself is niche and really only relevant in parties. Not to mention that after level 100, gear starts to become more specialized and the stat differences start to become smaller as you go up. If I remember correctly, the best gear for level 150 is also farm-only gear and isnβt buyable, with some builds still opting for the level 100 farmable gear on lv150 characters. The only place I can maybe think of where it might be worth it to spend money is pvp, but thatβs its own clown fiesta. From everything I remember though, pack gear has always been okay-ish to have if you donβt want to grind, but has never had the best gear, though maybe something was added recently which I donβt know about (again, havenβt played in a couple years).
Edit: just wanna clarify I love the video, Iβm just offering a bit of critique (which I could still be wrong on)
