November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmCould have been silver solder with the gold coming from the pins.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmI want to purchase the “ xrf” item you use that displays the metal composition of the button you analyzed. Can you provide a link or respond to me. Thanks,

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmVintage CPU's can be worth a lot more than their weight in gold… in fact you can find most models still for sale online.. That Silver can be from solder & uninsulated wires within chips..
You can use nitric acid to separate the silver(& base metals) from the gold, filter & then use copper to precipitate the silver out of Nitric solution. Nitric does not dissolve the gold by itself. Mixing Nitric Acid with Hydrochloric/Muriatic acid makes Aqua Regia which DOES dissolve gold, & then precipitates with Sodium Meta Bi-Sulphate, or "Bonide – Stump out".
These chemicals can all be bought OTC in hardware stores as well as Salons, if looking for 30% Hydrogen Peroxide as an alternative to Aqua Regia by substituting Nitric Acid. If removing silver from gold I suggest using the Aqua Regia so the Nitric first dissolves the silver. The divisions of Silver to Gold ratio in that button is perfect for "In-Quarting". Very cool using the Magnesia Cupel to leech the base metals away however I think I would just use chemicals instead of incineration reducing a step when going to use chemicals anyway. Much of the waste can also be converted into fertilizer chemicals… something that can not be said of the Cupel'ing with lead..
-Nitric Acid can be converted into Ammonium Nitrate & Calcium Ammonium Nitrate, "Among other things".
-Hydrochloric Acid or Muriatic Acid is caustic & sometimes used to acidify water & soil to achieve a lower pH level for Plant Growth.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmHow do I dispense of base metal Jewry? Also since I don’t have a workshop like this may I send you the pieces I’ve collected?

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmNot sure why you added silica to it when you could have just used acids 1st tho

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmIf you search the way to separate the silver and gold by acid reduction you will get a higher purity of both

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmA lot of your electronics nowadays have silver solder then they use a gold brush solder so it does not corrode because silver does corrode a little

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmOne of these days you will hopefully get a proper smelter.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmI think the silver was for gold plated connectors

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmI don't remember how to test for silver right off hand but know that it's used in solder, chips and capacitors, i used to fix electronic things when i was in high school. Of course: my knowledge was good for nothing back then as well.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmIt's always a shame to see the MIPS chips destroyed, especially the Orion variety. They have the most beautiful dies if you pop those caps off. I guess it depends whether you prefer art or commodities.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmEverything very professional but you did not think about the karats of the gold the CPU was made intially of and it contains at least 25% silver.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmCareful with the 🧲 mag! In wet material the steel will grab the gold etc and pulls out with the mag.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmi was about to be pissed off that you were smelting retro cpu but then i found out they were broken / bent pins so i dont mind. Great and interesting video

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmYou didnt used essential oils. Like lavendel and stuff like that… for me its oregano and you would find and precious gold

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmSome of those cpu chips have silver wires in them instead of gold wires

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmIf you calculate the amount of materials used (gas and electricity) to reclaim the precious metals i doubt it will give a profit.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmSilver with gold plating makes a lot of sense. To my knowledge, silver is the best conductor of electricity, but tarnishes easily. Coating any exposed silver with gold would keep corrosion to a minimum.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmYes, they are gold plated. Barely any gold to begin with. It's literally not worth doing, unless it's just a fun hobby. In that case, carry on.

November 4, 2022 - 11:23 pmneed to burn as in convert to ash the ceramic chips before you grind them up first, seems to work better
