i would recommend running a benchmark to make it extra toasty before removing the cooler if you've left it untouched for a few years. in my experience the stock thermal paste the cooler comes pre-applied with practically cements itself to the cpu after enough time and just leaving the pc on idle was not enough to loosen it up. not fun.

Not necessary. Just press down towards the socket and twist. Works 100% of the time no matter how long the paste has been on. No damage. Been doing it for 17+ years.

No no no….step 2 is disconnect power plug and press your power button to discharge any remaining power

I'm never bent a pin on a CPU and I still don't know how that's possible.

This is not something I'd even considered :/ I thought the chip was held in place by the silver frame then the little lever? Haha

My wraith cooler just didn't wanna do that because of the stupid pins. Ended up bending my 5800x pins 😩 now I'm waiting for a replacement. So idk maybe I can find someone who would be willing to buy a amd chip with bent and broken pins. Probably still works if you fix it. But I don't have the patience for it.

What if I have a dead aio cooler? Can’t run my pc cause I know it will overheat it is there still a safe way to remove the cooler with these circumstances?

I have broken 5 AMD CPU by removing the cooler, i have nothing to repair them so thrown them away to the garbage and too i have no dexterity so. What a waste of money so much so that I have given up on putting thermal paste so it would not happen again. With the new socket AM5 that will not happen again.

Cmon AMD! You’re scaring all these people just because you were lazy and chose to use bendable pins

Ahah, my dumbself just yeeted the cooler out and bent around 10 cpu pins from a 3600. 3 hours later I was able to put them in place and everything was working alright. Worst experience of my life, can't recommend.
