February 14, 2023 - 12:09 amI have had experiences where honesty is great but to much honesty can startle the listener. π As a young person had to learn just because I thought it and it was true didn't mean it was necessary I share all of it. You raise children with "honesty is the best policy", and "do not tell a lie". I didn't receive all the "except when" or "in the company of". I learned. Then you grow up and all the adults skewed and embellished twisting words this way and that, … "I'm like oh, I see one of those do as I say things". I'm still forth right but don't share unnecessary information unless someone wants more detail. Not as quick to volunteer it. π

The content is useful but the person presenting it is just overacted and distractive.

Most rΓ©sumΓ©s sound the same. People applying for positions often have similar experience and degrees. A cover letter is where the employer can learn more about YOU.
Thus, I typically ignore applications without a cover letter.
What, you don't care enough about the position to bother with writing a CL? If you don't include a CL, you're also assuming that I will make all the necessary connections between your experience, knowledge, and skills and the position duties. Why wouldn't you take the time to make those connections for me? Why not take the opportunity to share something that won't be clear from a standard rΓ©sumΓ©? Plus, the CL gives me some insight into your writing ability.
Unless explicitly told not to include one, I think it is a huge mistake not to do so. It's really where you can start to become an actual person, and not just a collection of bullet points on a rΓ©sumΓ©.
