Hope I didn't discourage anyone with this video. Just trying to be honest about making money with code. Let me know what you think about the video and tell me how you're making money with code!

"Shake hands and kiss babies" haha you're funny, but I think I'm like you. I really wouldn't want to go hunting for clients in my local area and I also wouldn't like the race to the bottom on these sites like Fiverr and Upwork etc. I love your realness. Keep it up!

Between being burnt out at a call center and being burnt out as a web developer, I'd much rather be burnt out as a webdev.

I really dont care about a big check. For me is if the company is oriented about growing us more as devs and a healthy ambient. Paycheck comes with time so does your knowledge and ability to grow up more. In the end mental health and yourself is way more important than a job so be sure to kinda balance them in your life. A great video tho ๐Ÿ™‚

I have been a freelancer for over 30 years. I have programmed pacemakers, airplanes, accounting systems and things I can't remember. When I worked I made good money. I have never had a class in programming. Sometimes I worked from when I woke up to when I went to bed. Sometimes all night with the CEO standing 10 feet behind me watching every move I made. If you program you will learn how to deal with management quirks. They want it in a week that takes two months to do. To them its just typing letters into a screen. In half the jobs I did not know the language and learned on the fly. Maybe doing web sites is easy. Getting work is difficult. The easiest way to get into programming is to get a degree in electrical engineering. Whatever path you take you will pay your dues to get there. And most of the time it has nothing to do with punching code. Rules to be a good programmer: talk to the end user. Rule two: do what the client wants even if it is wrong. And so on. Getting jobs is difficult. You are usually a piece of paper on a pile of 20 other pieces of paper. And one is picked by a person that is a non-programmer people person. The trick is to apply everywhere you can. Agencies are good because they can lie for you. The best way to get work is get around the front desk and personnel guy and talk to the head engineer. He doesn't know how to program but understands what he needs. Anyway, I talk to much.

Agreed with every single word this man said. I always wanted to be Software engineer because I liked video games so much in my early years. Only until I was 27 I learned Python and worked in Animation for some movies creating their pipelines until one day I finally landed to the video game industry and was a total disappointment. Long hours, low pay, and the list goes on. Luckily, my skills went beyond than simply coding and now at 33 y/o I'm working architecting cloud (devops) but, as he mentioned hasn't been easy… I spent sooo many hours building my skills, learning so many different technologies, learning how to design instead of develop, I have worked 6 days a week, 15 hours per day for months to get to where I am right now, earning a decent salary, and my LinkedIn inbox full every week… have been easy? Totally not! Would I do it again? Without hesitation!

I have worked as a developer for 22 years. I have just changed directions to be an agile coach. I just started hating to code because of all the never ending projects. I even stopped working on my own projects at home becase I could not stand the sight of code. You need to keep it fun and work with inspiring people.
