yes but for old used xenon cpu is more cheap than normal i7 or i5 in lga 1155 for example wich comparable performance and if i buy ecc memory suport motherboard for ddr3 the memory is extreamly cheap in poland i can buy 24gb ddr3 1333mhz memory in 4 modules for 100zล‚ than is like 20$ that make a very good cheap gaming setup on cool server/work station hardware aslo i can buy nvidia quadro but the price=performance is comparable to radeon for the same price

Linus, shame on you for putting anyone down who has built a system that does not have a high-end Intel or AMD processor. I have a Ryzen 5 3600 in my system and I am happy with it.

Old xeons equal good price to performance Iโ€™m running dual 2690s have one with all 8 cores 16 thread assigned for gaming the other 8 cores 16 threads broke up with 2 cores 4 threads running a media center server and 6 cores 12 threads for a VM player 2 all for the price of 200 dollars including new Chinese mobo if you want to do a bunch of stuff at once lag 2011 xeons are amazing

It was really crappy Intel locked Xeon out of consumer boards even if they fit the same socket.

Sure you gave up overclocking. But they presented a pretty good deal.

If cost does not matter since I am getting a used xeon will it cause any gaming performance degradation. Since I am getting xeon dirt cheap 1650 e3 because clock speed is 3.5 will it cause any issues I am a newbie gamer on a very tight budget and in my country xeon is actually way cheaper specially old models i plan to play games and render and record screen also just worried if xeon will cause gaming compatibility issues or performance degradation. Thanks.

according to pc building sim the Ryzen 5950x is better than any of the Threadrippers i dunno how accurate that game is but left me shocked i thought threadripper be better.

At last, if you tried to run a Minecraft server on a server CPU, it will run worse than your i5/i7 because the game only programmed to use 1 CPU core and thread that is crucial for its stability. Minecraft's maximum core usage is 3 which is actually designed for quad core CPUs in version 1.15.

I have a Lga2011v3 Xeon card with 14 core. I just ordered a Radeon 6750XT 12gb card. I wonder how this will work out.

    I currently have a Nvidia Geforce 960 4gb card

i honestly hate how expensive high-core-count cpu's are. most people don't have $3000 to just shell out for a something like a threadripper. and for how much money these companies make it seems kind of ridiculous.

Xeon W3690 for the win. Back before GPU prices skyrocketed you buy a dell precision tower with a W3690 in it for like 120 bucks, and drop in a 50 or 60 series card and have a great pc with 6 cores and 12 threads at 3.7ghz for under 500 usd

Well, now you can – Epyc is kind of a better gaming server CPU as they're the same as Ryzen CPUs, only they both have different packages for respective marketing segments and Threadripper CPUs are literally rebranded Epyc CPUs and yes I own one. Obviously I am sure couple of people know the fact about both Epyc and Threadripper CPUs.

I have a 64 core epyc CPU paired with a Quadro 8000 gpu, 256gb ram ecc 2133mhz ddr4. this is the most overkill computer in existence if you don't count the NVidia tesla gpu which is pretty much for rendering, server intensive work, etc. the reason I chose the epyc, and a Quadro, and the overkill amount of ram was that in the future when computers advance, you need to be prepared for whats going to come out in the future such as a new CPU, new gpu, new type of ram etc.
