February 19, 2023 - 10:31 pmMy German brother in law said this accident was also helped by the fact that culturally, the man who first observed the danger felt he was not competent enough to pull the alarm himself without the proper permissions from a relevant authority figure. It would be classed as a Crew Resource Management accident if he were the copilot and failed to speak up in an air crash.

February 19, 2023 - 10:31 pmI have an idea : Probably the greatest man-made transport disaster that the world has ever seen – Great Britain's rail system. You couldn't get a bigger train wreck! 🤔

February 19, 2023 - 10:31 pmThis is the first time I've seen a detailed analysis of this disaster and I'm appalled at the behaviour of the passenger who reported the damage to the manager and the manager's rather relaxed approach. I've been on an ICE train that was on fire, all I really saw was thick smoke outside coming from under the carriage and a smell of burning rubber and plastic. I didn't wait long and pulled the emergency brake, but this didn't stop the train. Apparently all this does is signal to the manager that something is wrong and where. He then has the power to stop the train if needed. He arrived after about a minute and I pointed to the smoke developing even thicker from under carriage. He told me he'll stop the train at the next station about 15 minutes away and I told him he'd better stop it now because that smoke was getting thicker and more threatening and nobody knew what was burning and how dangerous it was. So that's what he did, which got us stuck for over 2 hours, but at least we were all safe. It turned out the air conditioning was playing up and it looked far worse than it actually was, there was no real danger to life and limb. But you can never know in such situations and it's always better to be safe than sorry.

February 19, 2023 - 10:31 pmAs an American, I wish we had train service like the rest of the world. I think it’s extremely stupid we don’t have these things because we already use The Grid which is a nationwide wiring system that connects everyone into one big electrical system. So we already have power going to each place, we just don’t have the trains.
Along with that, our trains we have are really not that good. It is common to have major rocking, and this can easily feel stressful as it feels like you’re about to tip while at high speeds.
To make matters worse, train tickets aren’t cheap. They’re definitely cheaper than flying, but the inconvenience of them makes driving a much more enjoyable experience, even if driving sucks.

February 19, 2023 - 10:31 pmI recently started watching this channel and I’m being really impressed by the understanding of the technical issues involved and the fantastic explanations given. These are well researched topics which are brilliantly presented.

February 19, 2023 - 10:31 pmYeh in the UK rail makes sense because of the dense population, US like if they actually bit it it would make sense, but flying would often also make sense because population centres are so spread out.

February 19, 2023 - 10:31 pm@1511 if the Germans have not got enough universities and industry ltds to have technical gear tested, nobody does.
I d love to take the opportunity to insult Germany who have a thing for high speed, and sorta dig danger on that part. And enthusiasticly fly helicopters with dead bodies in it cause its hardly ever alive the contents of the yellow tuna in the air. I was on a vacation in Germany in a town that was not particularly small, but no industrialised companies. Here the bus goes once in every two hours (not vice versa)
Using such trains, which many more rational countries refuse as they are rather pricey both for customers and users too..is totally unlogicql if the after-transport is superslow.

February 19, 2023 - 10:31 pmI guess this is why so many passenger trains in the USA have emergency stop buttons. If there’s an emergency, anyone on the train can hit the emergency stop.
