The best MMO differs from player to player.
Every single MMO has that one dedicated player that swears by it. That would ardently defend it no matter how wrong they were. That would overlook all of its flaws. Even The Day Before had players like that, that would come into Mrs Stix’s video to call her an unwarranted hater.
I understand that everyone has different likes and dislikes, and can appreciate every MMO for the unique experiences they provide us.
With the end of 2023 upon us, I wanted to navigate the vast ocean of the genre in hopes of narrowing down the single, uncontested, best MMO of 2023. And to achieve that I wanted to rank the best MMOs in a number of different categories. Best tab-target, best action, best story, world, PvP etc.
And in the end, tally each game based on a numerical point-based system, with a clear, definitive winner.

February 15, 2024 - 11:37 amI'd have at least put EVE Online in the "best free" category with a decently high rating. And there's very little argument for it to have any pay-to-win elements, too. Also, how is GW2, which is free-to-play and has been for years, in the paid section?

February 15, 2024 - 11:37 amworld of warcraft is the worst game of all time, it is so overrated, no games should make you fall asleep. The tab target combat is not engaging, repeat same abilities in order forever, repetitive fetch quest, graphics that look like it was made by a child. The good thing is the lore and raids. I tried getting into it but i just can't endure the boring repetitive combat.

February 15, 2024 - 11:37 am@MMOByte ArcheAge is one of the Worse game I have played. This is me saying after exploring all its aspects 19k Gear Rating and AR 40. Combat clumsy so say the least. Mount System is weird and P2W. Naval combat is kind of fun and Boss near endgame are all sponge enemies with no diversity.
For WoW As you said these are MY Ratings:
Story: 8
Exploration: 4
Combat: 6
Graphics: 2
PVE: 7
PVP: I Do Not Know since I haven't played that aspect.

BDO -> WoW -> GW2 In my opinion, present day MMO's. With experience in most major MMO's through out life in the bag.
WoW Classic -> BDO -> GW2 for New Players that has never played any MMO's before.

Sadly, I've never made it more than 50+ hours into an MMO but if I would make the plunge its going to be Final Fantasy XIV for series familiarity and for all the news I've heard about the older expansions being improved with solo support and other improvements. However, your video certainty helped remind me of other greats like Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2 and Lost Ark. As for the video itself, some of the sections weren't clearly labelled and I think FF14 should have been in BestWorld/Exploration category for how gorgeous the vistas, cities and architecture look, but to each his own. Thanks for making the video. Looking forward to watching more of your content. Keep up the great work MMOByte and company. 🙂

February 15, 2024 - 11:37 amHot take, but if you want exploration, you're looking at the wrong genre. MMOs are all pretty terrible in terms of exploration because the game is designed chronologically and newer content incentivizes gameplay, which ultimately means there is only one place to go with intention. Exploration is genuinely a waste of time in MMOs and will fatigue you in no time. Elden Ring has great exploration because you can find unique items and bosses that 90% of the player base didn't know existed, but MMOs don't work that way.

February 15, 2024 - 11:37 amIn pvp, i would like to add GW2, man, WvW and regular pvp are just way to fun to play, and for the last, it dont even require you to have the equipment, just plan the build and select it in the menu.
