Update: Thank you everyone for your comments on this video. I appreciate the generous input and respect the counter opinions. When making this video, of course I didn't anticipate that it would take off this much. In my channel, I cover topics around life, career & business in the Netherlands. One of my main goals is to keep as much of a balanced view as possible. I have other videos if you're interested in learning more and invite you to subscribe to the channel. Thank you!

I'm 48 years old single mother living in Lyon. I'm hoping to retire at 50 if things keep going well for me. Bought my first house last month and I can't be more proud than I am right now. I'm so glad made great decisions about my finances that changed me forever.

You pay more than 50percent taxes in America. You pay income tax, medical, copay and taxes on daily purchases

Thumb down for the capitalist mumbo jumbo (Trains and police don't pay themselves) and btw just to clarify rich people in that bracket don't pay much taxes they do magic accounting first and pay nothing or considerably less.

My experiences working in the Netherlands for a year would be in general you get a cool reception from the Dutch at best but the British ex pats are truly vile.

When you said You had Dutch friends at your school and they were international it sort of speaks for itself what type of people are Dutchies living in Netherlands. Most of them donโ€™t like foreigners. I also had the same experience with them

Everything you said was very true. I lived in the Netherlands for 4 years. I ended up moving back to the states – not due to money or financial goals but due to the Dutch culture making it impossible to live happily and feel accepted as an expat. Dutch people can be very close minded and not accepting of others from other cultures.

Netherlands has supposedly rank 8th-9th in HDI and itโ€™s one of the best economies in Europe (and in the world),and my dad is Dutch and most Dutch people are โ€œrichโ€ people at least for the American-Latin American standards

I dont think saying something like "Oh I tought youre from America" or " Oh but your dad has blue eyes,do turkish people have blue eyes?" Is xenophobic. These are rather opinions based on dtereotypes and general curiosity.

As an expert in Nederland for 8 years
I Agree With money it's so expensive here but there are high quality jobs but so much money to pay
    Things to know before coming:
    1. If you wanna be filty rich don't come
    2. The language is so hard
    3. There's so many cigarettes here
    4. There's so many dogs here
    5. The weather here is weird in the summer it can rain ๐ŸŒง In autumn ๐Ÿ‚ It may be very cold
    6. Asking to be friends with a Dutch in class can be very awkward I can speak Dutch
    7. If you move here There's overpriced stuff And to rich you cna spend so much money
    8. Positive thing There hasn't been a war In Nederland for probably more than 8 years because there was never a war here
    Done! Bye

You forgot the rate of illegal sex trafficking, legalized sexual extortion, etc. They got a problem with sex stuff in general, cool they got a red light district and sexual healthcare that's gives government paid trips 12 times a year there but it's much worse then that. I've also looked at the rate of tourists gone missing and I've concluded that likely some workers in the red light district are those missing tourists. It's literally so "progressive" that in 10 to 15 years it'll be Epstein's sanctuary. Don't visit especially alone especially if you plan on drinking or smoking weed.

this is great, i care about none of these lmao. im moving because im in the states where you have to get multiple jobs just to live a comfortable life, and i don't want that. i just want to live a quite, content life with my dutch partner (another big reason i want to move, there is someone wanting to see me over there :]). i don't want big money or luxury, i already have a dutch person to connect with, i live in louisiana right now im definetly used to constant rain, and im used to prejudice as im a disabled person. this video is actually reassuring lmao

I think it's great that super rich people pay more taxes and the difference between high and low pay is smaller. You might not get filthy rich, but you won't be filthy poor either. I'd rather have 10 comfortable people than 2 millionaires and 8 people struggling.

  • Gino Foogle

    January 26, 2023 - 4:52 pm

Going to break down everything point for point:
1: You do realize for someone to be filthy rich you automatically have a huge group paying the price for your wealth.. otherwise money has no value (simple economics). so yeah not being able to become filty rich is because money is distributed here more evenly (or somewhat anyway)
2: You haven't been to Germany France or Italy i take it.. i find the netherlands to be a lot milder in that regard.
3: I'd rather have rain than drought.. all i'm going to say on this. Rain is life..
4: Can't really relate i suppose, this is personal.
5: Again this goes deeper than you think.. Sure you can make more money elsewhere but most social constructions here are funded by tax money. If you lose a leg in america and you are not insured they will leave you to die in the street (exaggeration obviously) here it's different.
6: If you have money you can live luxurious in the netherlands however you want. (goes back to point 1 and 5) Yes the government doesn't want you to drive a car, less congestion less trafic better for the atmosphere.. america has more parking lots and malls than the netherlands has bikes.. and yes most houses are small, you are small, houses heat up and cool down quicker and cost less to maintain.. netherlands is a small country so yes, space comes at a premium. this is only logical.

As long as you just get a good job you could get some really good money

The Dutch may spend more in taxes up front. Come on over to the U.S. if you are just interested in making more money but don't expect to get as much quality out of your life. They will let you work from sun up to sun down- Vacation might be one week a year but that depends on many variables and is not guaranteed by law. You will pay dearly for health insurance. You WILL need a car and that along with the fuel to put into it. There is always more to pay in tax at check out. Parks and recreation all cost more. You will spend all your time driving and at work. Your diet will include 70% fast food. You'll put on 20 LB's in a month. If Xenophobia is a problem in the Netherlands it's a way of life in the U.S. Having lived in both places for long periods of time I honestly value the work/life balance in the Netherlands. I once heard that for every dollar earned it comes with a price. Your earning potential might be higher in the States but that does not equal quality. Don't trick yourself into thinking that. I made that mistake once.
