To those who constantly mouth off on Russia's backwardness in computer tech: Elbrus architecture is far more advanced than any other the West's counterparts. Russian computer scientists who have made Intel's most powerful microprocessors nowadays: Vladimir Pentkovski, and Boris Babayan

So they are creating an industry that has guaranteed government financing and no incentive to compete. Did they learn nothing from the failure of the soviet economy? The private sector makes really good stuff really fast because of competition. When you remove that competition and guarantee government business, you end up with garbage that is made by people who don't really need to make a good product. They just need to keep politicians happy. Russia is going to end up with the same garbage economy the soviet union had but without the massive population and any of the benefits that the soviet system generated from a command economy. They have a command economy now but without the socialist parts that make it much easier and more comfortable to live life poor compared to capitalist economies.
